After being in Canada for about three weeks, we curled back into the United States to spend the 4th of July weekend with Sunil’s family and to attend Sunil’s cousin’s (Chris’) wedding. On the way to Minneapolis, we stayed in Michigan for a week. It rained nonstop. We stayed instead and ate Pasties, a local specialty. When we had a clear day, we checked out Grand Sable Dunes by Lake Superior. On the weekend before we departed, we took a day trip to Mackinac Island, where no vehicles are allowed. The island felt a little touristy for us, but it was still cool to see carriages and horses everywhere. We went for a short hike around the island, and strolled around the downtown area.

After Mackinac Island, we headed to Minneapolis, Minnesota where Sunil’s family was. We spent a week, stayed for the 4th of July weekend and attended Chris’ wedding. It was great to attend their celebration and visit with the extended family.  While in Minneapolis, my mother, mama Hong, joined us from South Korea for the next month of our road trip adventure through the US and Canada!
