Portland Maine / Acadia National Park, June, 2017

After Nicole’s high school graduation, we traveled further up the east coast to Maine where we visited Portland and Acadia National Park. Portland was a laidback, but fun city where local breweries, eateries, and distilleries are booming. We had three missions to accomplish in Maine, Allagash Brewing Company (Soo-Jin’s choice of beer), lobsters, and Acadia National Park.

Among many choices of beer, Allagash white was my go-to beer. We were excited to do the brewery tour and taste samples. The tour featured not only Allagash white beer but other wheat beers, including a reserve white. We got a little tipsy by the end of the tour!

Lobster, lobster, lobster, lobster, lobster, lobster! That’s how many we ordered between two of us. Once we ordered, the staff in the store boiled the lobsters on the spot and presented them in a brown bag with sides of butter and lemon. The store kindly gave us a cracker as we had forgotten to bring one. We walked down to a nearby harbor and had our feast. As we tore the brown bag in half, steam was coming out in the midst of handsome looking red lobsters! We each picked one and began to crack’em open. Wow, juicy, tender, warm white lobster flesh was exposed and swallowed by us in no time. Never had we tasted such good of lobster in our life! We only wish we could enjoy them with our family! Six lobsters were cleared in no time and it was one of our tummy’s happiest days!

We couldn’t forget this lobster feast day when we went to Acadia National Park, so we searched the best lobster place nearby Acadia. This time, we picked seven lobsters between the two of us and the size of each lobster was a little bigger than the previous ones we had. Freshly boiled lobster was given to us in a big box as if we were going to feed several other folks. We sat down on the upstairs porch and began to crack’em away! The lobsters didn’t disappoint us.

Acadia National was the most pleasant park! The park was feminine and pretty. Trees were skinnier and the leaves were smaller than most of trees that we saw in the west coast. Though the best time to tour Acadia is in fall when the colors are changing, we were very happy to walk along the shores, hike rocky trails, and make s’mores at night by the campfire next to our tent. As we were departing from Acadia National Park, we promised to visit again in the fall.

Adios to Acadia, hello to Canada ~
